What is the Ch-Ch-Ch-Challenge?
The CHANTS Challenged-Network Chicago Challenge is a trivia contest, scavenger hunt, and a test of technical skill for people with an interest in mobile wireless networks. All throughout the week of MobiCom/MobiHoc we will be releasing bundles containing challenges. Completing the challenges will win you points, and the people/teams with the most points will be eligible for some sort of prize (TBD).
Typical challenges will require you to gather some piece of information about happenings and technical content of the conferences and workshops.
Why The Ch-Ch-Ch-Challenge?
Over the last ten years interest in the field of delay/disruptiontolerant, challenged, and opportunistic networks has grown drastically. Communication protocols originally designed to accommodate communication in the intermittent and high delay environment of deep space have been applied to sensor networks, battlefield networks, and more recently, peer-to-peer content sharing and social networking.
However despite a flurry of creative proposals for ways this new technology could be used, and the diaspora of mobile phone apps whose sole novelty is to mimic the behavior of an opportunistic network, the technology still has not captured the mindshare necessary to move it into common public use. Even among researchers who work with opportunistic networks on a daily basis, a Bundle Protocol stack is rarely seen outside the lab.
We are developing competitive challenges, or games, in which participants would use Bundle Protocol in order to accomplish some nominal goal. By making the activity competitive and offering some reward to the best performers, we hope to get large numbers of conference attendees communicating with BP on a daily basis. In the process people will begin to dis- cover how DTN technology and associated applications can be used to meet their own communication needs.
How Can I Play?
The first step is to register you EID. Then complete the warmup challenges. Then come to MobiCom/MobiHoc for the serious part of the contest.
